WOW!  I feel very lucky to have picked “A Peek for a Week” Inside a Kiwi Junior Classroom.  The title and summary caught my eye due to the age of the students (6 & 7 year olds).  It was an absolutely amazing presentation showcasing young students involved in so many of the things we have been learning about in Web 2.0.  This was the first thing I’ve seen with small children so thoroughly involved in technology.  The teacher narrated a video presentation of a day in her classroom, with technology integrated into every subject, including fitness and visual art.  It was totally worthwhile.  I found my self mesmerized!

This online, anytime delivery option for attending a conference gets my vote.  How nice to “attend” such an outstanding session from the comfort of my own home.  It seems like it would save a system/school professional money to encourage teachers to take part in such online professional learning.  I saw many things in this presentation that I can use, and I also have some ideas brewing about using this professional learning at West Side.

If you teach small children, you should take the time to listen to Rachel Boyd and watch the video presentation of the students in Room 9!

We are looking into this concept for next year. Where teachers can “attend” an online conference and get PLU’s. Wouldn’t that be great???

  2. Diane,

I’ll have to go back and watch the one you viewed. Mine was ok, but it was basically a recorded voice over some slides – kinda boring. Information was good, but I found myself tuning out a bit.

This method of delivery would probably save the system money and I think for the most part it would work for most courses, but I’m sure you would have some that would prefer the face-to-face format as well.

I have to say, you got me hooked. I also will be going back to watch this video since I work with all grade levels it’s nice to see what and how teachers are using technology in the classroom and I’m always open to learning new ways to reach my students. Thank you I will be going back for sure. Vilma

  4. I totally agree with you. Teachers of young students should see this video to see what out students COULD be doing. I’m glad I picked this session to “attend.”

    Diane,
I’m going to go back and watch this session. The thing that worries me is that I would waste instructional class time while trying to get familiar with the technology. This session seems to deal with that issue. Melinda

    Diane,
I loved the presentation in Room 2009. This was exactly what I was thinking when I viewed the Skype presentation. I think being able to see other children performing and having my students perform for them would be very interesting and helpful for my kids.

The choreography was neat and it is always fun to watch performances of children. Thank you for sharing Room 2009 with us.
